3 "Realistic" Trade Targets Listed for Vegas Golden Knights at Deadline
As the NHL's trade cutoff approaches on March 7th, one team that everyone around the league must keep their eye on is the Vegas Golden Knights. They've struck at the deadline before, and despite cap challenges and all else, GM Kelly McCrimmon always finds a way.
But with just over $2 million in cap space to deal with, and no first-round picks this year or next, there will likely be some limitations to what he can really do this time around.
With that in mind, Hannah Kirkell of Vegas Hockey Now has listed three "realistic" trade targets for the Golden Knights, given their resources.
Jake Evans, Montreal Canadiens
The 28-year-old is having a career-best season, and has become even more valuable as a trade candidate than he is to the Habs this season. His expiring $1.7 million salary is reasonable enough for the Golden Knights to fit under their cap. He'd be a tremendous addition to their bottom-six. Kirkell specifically notes that Evans "draws penalties like a madman," which can only be a good thing for the team with the 2nd best power play in the league.
Anthony Beauvillier, Pittsburgh Penguins
Another fine secondary scorer for the Vegas bottom-six, Beauvillier has registered 12 goals in 56 games for the Pens, playing just 12:41 a night. He's also a rental, carrying a $1.25 million cap hit that can also easily be absorbed by Vegas.
Any 6th/7th Depth Defenseman
Kirkell leaves this one up for interpretation. We're not talking the high-end of the defense market here. Just a third-pairing decent defensive D-man who can clear the front of the net. Doesn't have to be a big name (those wouldn't be affordable), but more of an under-the-radar type.
