3 Seattle Kraken Trade Candidates With Deadline Approaching
The Seattle Kraken are among the bottom-feeders in the Western Conference, with GM Ron Francis likely heading to the sellers market. The Kraken enter the 4 Nations Face-Off break with 11 points out of a playoff spot, and have several trade assets they could be interested in cashing in on before March 7.
Here's three Kraken trade candidates, as trade talks are picking up in a major way during the two-week NHL break:
Brandon Tanev
The grinder is a coach's dream, and could be a valuable piece for a third-line of a contending team. He hits everything that moves, leads the league in blocked shots by forwards, and is one of the better penalty killers in the league. Tanev has blazing speed and brings a ton of energy to his game, and has also hit double digits in goals, so he can chip in offensively more than people think. Tanev's owed $3.5 million this season, his final year of his deal, and does have a 10-team no-trade clause on his contract. A reunion with his brother Chris in Toronto could be in the cards.
Jared McCann
McCann is someone who has joined the rumor mill of late, as Francis could look to cash in on his best player, but unfortunately, that could push his team's development back a few years. Regardless, what we do know is McCann is a top-six winger, who can play down the middle if need be, and has scored 40 goals during his tenure in Seattle. At $5 million, he's under a very reasonable cap hit, and is signed through the 2026-27 season. McCann also has a 10-team no-trade list and does have some say in the matter.

Yanni Gourde
Gourde isn't expected back until mid-March, as he's recovering from sports hernia surgery, but with two Stanley Cups in his back pocket, and a slew of versatility on the ice, Gourde will be in high demand before the trade deadline. Look for Francis to want at least a second-round pick, plus a mid-level prospect, and could parlay Gourde together with another piece and try and land a first-round pick, much like we saw in Pittsburgh and Dallas just weeks ago. Gourde has recorded 16 points in 35 games this season, and is under contract at $5.1 million AAV, and like Tanev, is also a pending unrestricted free agent this summer.
