Sabres' Alex Tuch Is Quickly Becoming A Star Trade Attraction

The NHL trade rumor mill is buzzing, and one name consistently popping up is Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch. The 27-year-old winger has become a focal point of trade discussions, with multiple teams reportedly eyeing his services. 

As the Sabres continue to navigate their rebuild, Tuch’s combination of skill, size, and experience makes him an attractive target for contenders looking to bolster their roster. Standing at 6’4” and weighing 220 pounds, he brings a rare blend of size, speed, and skill to the ice. In the 2023-24 season, Tuch recorded 22 goals and 37 assists for 59 points in 74 games.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Buffalo Sabres winger could bring significant offensive firepower to the Columbus Blue Jackets. A potential deal has been suggested, with Columbus offering Cole Sillinger and defensive prospect Stanislav Svozil in exchange for Tuch. On paper, Tuch would fit well on the second line alongside Sean Monahan and Dmitri Voronkov, addressing the Jackets’ need for scoring depth.

But is it worth it? While Tuch could boost Columbus’ playoff hopes, the move feels like a short-term fix with long-term risks. The Jackets’ success this season stems from young stars like Kirill Marchenko and steady veterans like Sean Monahan. Trading Sillinger, a promising forward, and Svozil, a top defensive prospect, for the 28-year-old Tuch might be too high a price for a team still building its future.

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins have also been linked to Tuch, as noted by The Hockey News. With a need for additional scoring depth, Tuch’s offensive production and playoff experience make him an intriguing target for the Bruins. His ability to play in all situations would add versatility to Boston’s lineup, making them a more dangerous team in the postseason.

When examining the Bruins’ roster, it’s clear they could benefit from adding a forward like Alex Tuch. One of Boston’s most glaring weaknesses is the lack of depth at the second-line right wing position, making Tuch an ideal fit to address that need.

Tampa Bay Lightning 

The Tampa Bay Lightning have also entered the conversation, as reported by BVM Sports. Known for their aggressive pursuit of talent, the Lightning are reportedly targeting Tuch to add depth and scoring to their lineup. With a core built around stars like Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point, Tuch could be the missing piece to help Tampa Bay make another deep playoff run.

In his recent 32 Thoughts column, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman noted that Alex Tuch would attract significant interest from multiple teams if the Sabres made him available. Friedman specifically highlighted the Tampa Bay Lightning as a potential suitor for the big winger.

New Jersey Devils 

Another potential suitor is the New Jersey Devils. As reported by NHL Trade Rumors, the Devils are exploring ways to improve their roster, and Tuch’s skill set aligns with their needs. Pairing Tuch with the Devils’ dynamic young forwards could create a formidable offensive attack, helping New Jersey return to playoff contention.
