Big Injury Update On Rangers' Adam Fox Revealed

During the New York Rangers' Feb. 25 contest against the New York Islanders, star defenseman Adam Fox exited during the third period after suffering an upper-body injury. Now, an update regarding the Rangers top blueliner has been announced.

According to The Athletic's Arthur Staple, the Rangers will be placing Fox on injured reserve. Staple also added that there is hope that he will be good to return during the final weeks of the campaign.

With the Rangers looking to move up the standings to claim a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, losing Fox is certainly rough news for the Blueshirts. At the time of this writing, they have a 29-25-4 record and are two points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Fox, 27, has appeared in 58 games this season with the Rangers, where he has five goals, 48 points, 83 blocks, and a plus-5 rating. This is after he had 17 goals, 73 points, and a plus-21 rating in 72 games with the Rangers this past season.

With Fox now sidelined, the Rangers have also recalled defenseman Matthew Robertson from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Robertson has yet to make his NHL debut and has spent each of the last four seasons with Hartford. In 47 games this season with the AHL squad, he has one goal and 18 points.
