Frederic was in a walking boot on Thursday after leaving Tuesday’s overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs (one of the teams that would have been keenly interested in acquiring him) with a lower-body injury.
Although Chris Johnson reports that there's a "sense" this won't change the Bruins' deadline plans to trade Frederic, it could certainly have an impact on what they might be able to procure in exchange for the injured pending UFA.
Earlier this week we talked six teams that are in on Frederic, but right now we don't know the specifics of the injury, how long he'll be out, or how much it could impact him and his style of play upon his return.
The 27-year-old 6'3", 220-pound forward is on an expiring $2.3 million cap hit. In addition to his size and physicality (204 hits last season, 155 already this campaign), Frederic has shown that he can be a valuable secondary scorer in the bottom six, as he found the net 35 times across 2022-23 & '23-'24.
His offensive production is down this season, with just eight goals in 57 games.
If teams are hesitant, the Bruins can speak to their acquisition of enforcer Pat Maroon at last year's deadline despite the fact that he was injured. Maroon was only able to come back in time to play two games at the end of the regular season, but then went on to play in all 13 Bruins playoff games.
