Blackhawks Rumors: 3 Teams In The Mix For Seth Jones
Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones has openly stated that he wants the opportunity to play for a contender. Due to this, he is, without a doubt, one of the top names to watch as we continue to get closer to the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
According to The Fourth Period, the Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, and Florida Panthers are all linked to Jones.
The Stars having their eye on Jones is entirely understandable. They need serious help on the right side of their defense, and adding a high-impact blueliner like Jones would undoubtedly help with that. When looking at their defense, he could slot nicely on their top pairing and on their power play.
The Avalanche having an interest in Jones is also understandable. Their blueline could use a boost, and acquiring a defenseman like Jones would give them that. He also would not need to be the top guy on their right side, as they, of course, have superstar Cale Makar. Thus, Jones could thrive on a second-pairing role in Colorado.
The Panthers' interest in Jones is not hard to understand, either. They notably lost fellow right-shot defenseman Brandon Montour in free agency this past offseason and have undoubtedly missed him. Bringing in Jones on their second pairing would surely help lessen the sting of that.
We will need to wait and see if one of these three teams acquires Jones from here. It would take some creativity, as Jones' $9.5 million cap hit until the end of 2029-30 is not easy to take on.
