Bruins Trade Rumors: Insider Links 6 Teams to Bruins' Trent Frederic
The Boston Bruins are right on the verge of selling at this deadline, and one of their hottest commodities on the trade market is undoubtedly Trent Frederic.
Adding to his size and physical play, Frederic has shown the ability to be a solid secondary scorer in the bottom six, with 35 goals combined in the previous two seasons. (This year, however, he has found the net just eight times in 56 games.)
The 27-year-old is on an expiring $2.3 million cap hit.
Calling him a "pain in the ass" to play against, insider Frank Seravalli lists no less than six potential suitors. Let's have a look, in alphabetical order:
Edmonton Oilers
With their resident "pain in the ass" Evander Kane having missed the entire season, and a return still unknown, Frederic could fill an important role that the Oilers have been missing this season.
Minnesota Wild
In addition to a gritty add for a hopeful playoff run, the Wild may even look at Frederic as an extension candidate, as they are in need of center depth, as Seravalli notes.
New Jersey Devils
After finishing 26th in hits last season, the Devils have made more physical play a priority this season under head coach Sheldon Keefe, and they've soared up to 5th in that department thus far. Frederic would fit right in. He handed out over 200 hits last season, and has 152 through 56 games this year.
Toronto Maple Leafs
If any team is well aware of Frederic's skillset, it's the Leafs. He recorded three goals against them in their seven-game first-round series loss to Boston last spring, as Seravalli points out. The Leafs are desperate for a legit 3C, and adding his size and physical play to the bottom six would be huge for Toronto going into the playoffs.
Vancouver Canucks
Maybe watching a player like Frederic up close could increase Elias Pettersson's 'give a sh--" quotient. Not to mention the fact that they've become thin up the middle, and adding the Bruins center fills a need.
Washington Capitals
The Caps don't need to do anything major at the deadline, as they've been rolling this season and lead the entire Eastern Conference with 84 points. But if there's anywhere they would like to improve, 3C could be it. Plus, as the insider notes, how much fun would it be to see Frederic and Tom Wilson lining up on the same side, for the first time. They've had some battles in the past.
