Casey Mittelstadt Leads 4 New Names on Latest Trade Board Top 10

The Colorado Avalanche already made the biggest waves of the NHL trade season with their shocking move of dealing superstar Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes late last month.

But according to insider Frank Seravalli, the Avs might not be done with bold moves just yet, as second-line center Casey Mittelstadt leads a group of four new names to populate Seravalli's latest Top 10 trade candidates:

  1. Brock Nelson, New York Islanders
  2. Brandon Tanev, Seattle Kraken
  3. Rasmus Ristolainen, Philadelphia Flyers
  4. Bowen Byram, Buffalo Sabres
  5. Casey Mittelstadt, Colorado Avalanche
  6. Ryan Lindgren, New York Rangers
  7. Dylan Cozens, Buffalo Sabres
  8. Seth Jones, Chicago Blackhawks
  9. Oliver Björkstrand, Seattle Kraken
  10. Jamie Oleksiak, Seattle Kraken

Brock Nelson still leads the way on this list, though the Islanders' recent strong play makes it somewhat questionable as to whether GM Lou Lamoriello relents and pulls the trigger.

Tanev heads up a list of three Kraken in the top 10, having moved up from the #9 position one month ago.

Ristolainen and Byram have been staples on these lists for a couple of months now, and seem to be the top two d-men available, though another newcomer to the top 10, Seth Jones, now brings his nearly 25 minutes a night to the proceedings.

Seravalli feels that with the news of the huge increase in the salary cap going forward, teams might be a little more willing to take a chance on Jones and his massive $9.5 million cap hit for five more seasons. He says "talks are picking up" on the Jones front.

Mittelstadt has two more seasons to go on his bridge deal signed last summer with the Avs, at $5.75M. But it seems like the team is having a little buyer's remorse, and per Seravalli, "We’re told the Avalanche are willing to shake things up if they can find the right deal."

The other two Kraken newcomers to list, Björkstrand and Oleksiak, round out the top 10. Each of them have another season to go still on their deals, and there should be no shortage of teams looking for a 6-foot-7 defenceman like Oleksiak that is not a rental.
