Steel, 27, is currently in his second season as a member of the Stars. In 77 games this past season with the Central Division squad, he had nine goals to go along with 24 points. He has followed that up this season with four goals, 17 points, and 46 hits in 53 games.
It is not particularly surprising to see the Stars decide to extend Steel. He has emerged as a solid part of the Stars' forward group due to his strong two-way play. In addition, he is one of the Stars' most impactful penalty killers, and he will now continue to be for the next two seasons because of this nice new extension.
Steel was selected by the Anaheim Ducks with the 30th overall pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. In 392 career NHL games split between the Ducks, Minnesota Wild, and Stars, Steel has 47 goals, 87 assists, and 134 points. It will be fascinating to see how much he builds on his career stats with the Stars after signing this brand new contract extension from here.
