Copp, 30, was placed on injured reserve on Feb. 24. This was after he suffered his injury during the second period of the Red Wings' Feb. 22 contest against the Minnesota Wild. Now, we know he will be out for the remainder of the campaign.
Copp appeared in 56 games this season with the Red Wings, where he had 10 goals, 23 points, 35 blocks, and a plus-4 rating. This is after he had 10 goals and 33 points in 79 games with the Red Wings during this past season.
With Copp done for the season and the Red Wings in the playoff race, it would not be surprising in the slightest if they look to add another center at the deadline. Copp is a key part of their forward group, so it would be wise for them to aim to find a replacement as they look to successfully break their eight-year playoff drought.
In 700 career NHL games over 11 seasons split between the Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, and Red Wings, Copp has 114 goals, 300 points, and a plus-73 rating.
