Edmonton Oilers Bring Back Travis Dermott

The Edmonton Oilers have announced that they have claimed defenseman Travis Dermott off of waivers from the Minnesota Wild.

Seeing the Oilers claim Dermott off waivers is not surprising in the slightest. Back in December, they lost the left-shot defenseman to the Wild through waivers, so it is understandable that they are bringing him back for some much-needed depth.

If no other team attempted to claim Dermott off waivers, the Oilers will have the freedom to send him down to the American Hockey League (AHL) without needing to put him back on the wire.

Dermott, 28, played in 10 games with the Oilers earlier this season, where he had zero points, two penalty minutes, and a minus-3 rating. In nine games with the Wild this campaign before this latest waivers claim, he had zero points and an even plus/minus rating.

Dermott has played in 348 career NHL games over eight seasons split between the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, Oilers, and Wild, where he has 16 goals, 46 assists, 62 points, and a plus-12 rating. It will be fascinating to see how much he improves upon these career stats now that he is back with the Oilers from here.
