Insider Drops Update On Jared McCann Trade Chatter

Once again this season, Seattle Kraken fans don't have a lot to get excited about. The team is sitting in 7th spot in the Pacific Division. Would trading their top scorer in each of franchise's four seasons be a wise move?

Jared McCann has recently found his name on the rumor mill, with talk that he could be available at the trade deadline. His name has been tied to a number of teams, including the Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs, among others.

But insider Elliotte Friedman has poked around, and tells us, via his 32 Thoughts podcast on Friday, that it's mostly wishful thinking from rival teams, circling the Kraken like vultures.

People were pretty emphatic that that is teams going to Seattle, saying 'Is there any way you'd do this?' There's no way that's Seattle doing that. That's people coming to them.

He has two seasons left on his contract at a $5M cap hit, a pretty reasonable figure for a guy who averaged 32 goals over his first three seasons with the Kraken. It's hard to imagine they'd be looking to move him, when offense is already hard to come by for the team.

McCann's numbers are down a bit this season, with 14 goals and 42 points in 57 games. Last year, he found the net 29 times, and the season before, lit the lamp on 40 occasions.

The 28-year-old is a 10-year veteran, and has been with the Kraken since they nabbed him from the Toronto Maple Leafs' roster in the expansion draft in 2021. In his four seasons in Seattle, he's recorded 110 goals and 224 points in 290 games.
