Insider: Flyers To Go "Big Game Hunting"
When the Philadelphia Flyers completed their trade this weekend of Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost, they dumped $5 million off their cap for the next three seasons, and eliminated another $2.1 million through the rest of this year. Between that salary dump, and the vastly increased salary cap limits for next season and beyond, it's looking to various insiders like the Flyers are planning something big.

"To position ourselves better in the future, more cap flexibility, to acquire the center that we're looking for. It just didn't make to much sense for us to bypass this trade."@FlyersKnitty pic.twitter.com/2EdSVWFInL
Insider Elliotte Friedman on his 32 Thoughts podcast on Monday, was expounding even further on those comments from GM Danny Briere.
Danny Briere confirmed what everybody has said. They're clearing cap room and they're going big game hunting. They're really gonna try something... (He) basically came out and said the Flyers are going to be a team to watch.
In the Flyers' search for that ever-elusive skilled center they so desperately need, Friedman even went on to suggest that Philly might use some of that added cap room to attempt an offer sheet or two this coming summer. With the rising cap, and the success of the St. Louis Blues' offer sheets to Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, that could be the thing to do for a lot of teams this offseason.
"It's no secret that, especially in Joel's case, the cap hit moving forward was tough... Morgan was also getting closer to getting paid a lot more money."
Let's keep an eye on the Flyers, both at this year's deadline, and in the summer. Something big could be brewing.
