Insider: Lightning & Sabres Emerging As Trade Partners
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has linked the Tampa Bay Lightning to Buffalo Sabres winger Alex Tuch as a potential trade target ahead of the 2025 deadline.
In his latest 32 Thoughts column, Friedman mentioned that Tampa Bay could pursue Tuch if he becomes available, though he noted that "they wouldn’t be the only ones" interested.
The 28-year-old winger has recorded 18 goals and 40 points in 53 games this season after a 22-goal, 59-point campaign last year. With the Lightning in need of a second-line right winger, Tuch would be a strong fit, but Buffalo’s willingness to move him remains uncertain.
The Lightning will be kicking tires on #LetsGoSabres power forward Alex Tuch if he becomes available via @FriedgeHNIC. This would be a massive pickup for #GoBolts.

Tuch is signed through 2025-26 with a $4.75 million cap hit, making him an attractive trade asset rather than a rental.
If the Sabres consider a move, they are expected to look to acquire NHL-ready players over prospects or draft picks. His name has surfaced in trade discussions alongside Dylan Cozens, Jordan Greenway, and Jason Zucker, though Buffalo has expressed interest in keeping Greenway and Zucker.
Given Tuch’s role on the Sabres, any deal involving him would likely require a significant return, especially if it means trading within the division.

If Sabres GM Kevyn Adams entertains offers, multiple teams will be in the mix, making the competition for Tuch’s services even tougher and likely driving the price higher.
