Insider Names Edmonton Oilers As One of 5 Prime Suitors for Kyle Palmieri

We know that NY Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello is no guarantee to sell off any of his notable pending unrestricted free agents. And certainly, with the team on a recent 8-2 run pulling themselves to within four points of a playoff spot (heading into Saturday's play), it's even more of an uncertainty what Lou will do.

But Kyle Palmieri, coming off a 30-goal season last year and following up with another nice campaign on his expiring four-year deal at $5M, could bring back a couple of draft picks for the Isles at the trade deadline. He does have a 16-team no-trade clause, so he would have some say.

Insider Frank Seravalli has looked at 5 likely potential suitors, including the Edmonton Oilers.
  • Edmonton Oilers
  • Dallas Stars
  • New Jersey Devils
  • Tampa Bay Lightning
  • Los Angeles Kings
"He’s probably a bit higher-end than the Oilers would be looking to add," writes Seravalli, "but Palmieri as a shooter on Leon Draisaitl’s right flank is something to think about.” Edmonton is more likely to target a depth defenceman and a more affordable bottom-six forward, but they could look to go for the gusto with Palmieri.

We know that the Dallas Stars are looking to do something big at the deadline, and they have the cap space to do it, with Tyler Seguin's $9.85M on LTIR. Adding Mikael Granlund was nice, but everyone thinks there's more to come in Dallas.

A reunion in New Jersey makes sense for Palmieri as well. He'd be returning to his home, and to the scene of his five straight 20-goal seasons (all but one of them were 25-goal seasons).

Seravalli can see the Bolts being interested, as they made an attempt at landing Brandon Saad last week, but failed.

And as for the Kings, we certainly know they are in the market to add more scoring.
