Insider on 2025 NHL Trade Market: 'St. Louis Blues are the team to watch'

The NHL's trade deadline is set for March 7, but there's growing speculation that once NHL teams are back practicing on Feb.18, expect to see multiple trades announced. The 4 Nations Face-Off has certainly captivated us all, but that hasn't stopped GM's from around the league to continue to discuss trades. Including Team Canada's Doug Armstrong, who happens to be GM of the St Louis Blues.

Hockey insider Elliotte Friedman on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast stated that Blues remain a team to watch. "Yeah, I think there's a lot of noise around them...There's some situations where we're watching, the Rantanen situation, and people are watching the Blues."

Brayden Schenn's name is out there and the Vegas Golden Knights are the clear-cut favorites to land him, as GM Kelly McCrimmon knows Schenn very well since he was a teenager. The Blues are also rumored to be open to moving a few other core pieces if the price is right, including Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchnevich, and Justin Faulk. They have rentals in Ryan Suter and Radek Faska, who are also worth watching as they're expected to be moved to playoff-bound teams.

If Schenn goes to Vegas, the Golden Knights will have to give up a ton. This will include any top prospects, as they don't have a first-round pick until 2027. Keep an eye on Pavel Dorofeyev, Brendan Brisson, and Alexander Holtz.

While a much more significant deal is expected, the Blues have been busy of late and remain the top team to watch ahead of the trade deadline.
