Insider: “Very Good Chance” That Jared McCann Could Be Dealt

Although a recent report suggested that all the trade buzz around Jared McCann surrounding the Seattle Kraken was entirely about other teams coming to them asking about McCann's availability, not the Kraken shopping him, we're getting a different take on things from insider David Pagnotta.

There is a lot of noise surrounding him, almost at the same level as (teammate and likely trade candidate Brandon) Tanev, where there is an expectation that he could be moved before the deadline. I don't know if I'd go that far necessarily (with McCann), but there is a very good chance, based on chatter around the league and talking to people around the league, that McCann could be on the move. Both he and Tanev may be the likeliest suspects (on the Kraken) to go.

McCann, 28, has been with the Kraken since they plucked him from Toronto in the expansion draft in 2021. He's been their leading scorer in each and every season since then, recording 110 goals and 224 points in 290 games in the Pacific Northwest.

The 10-year veteran, who averaged 32 goals per season the previous three years, still has two seasons left after this one on his contract at a $5M cap hit. Pretty good price for that kind of production, though his numbers are down a bit this season, with 14 goals and 42 points in 57 games.

Overall, with other trade targets like the aforementioned Tanev as well as Yanni Gourde and perhaps others, "Seattle could be a very busy club between now and March 7th," says Pagnotta.
