Islanders Provide Bad Injury Update On Mathew Barzal
The New York Islanders have announced that star forward Mathew Barzal will be out indefinitely due to a lower-body injury.

Barzal suffered his injury during the Islanders' Feb. 1 contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning after being hit in the knee with a shot from Darren Raddysh. Following this, he left the Islanders' contest and also did not play against the Florida Panthers on Feb. 2.
Barzal being out indefinitely is coming at an awful time for the Islanders. After going on a seven-game winning streak from Jan. 18 to Feb. 1, the Islanders have put themselves back in the Eastern Conference wild-card race. However, they are still four points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild-card spot, so being without Barzal is terrible news for the Islanders.
Barzal, 27, has appeared in 30 games this season with the Islanders, where he has six goals, 20 points, and a plus-10 rating. This is after he had 23 goals and 80 points in 80 games for the Islanders during this past season.
It will now be interesting to see how the Islanders perform without Barzal in the lineup from here.
