Kraken Trade Rumors: Brandon Tanev Linked To 6 Teams

Bottom-six forward Brandon Tanev is in the sixth and final season of his $3.5M AAV contract with the Seattle Kraken, and with no extension seemingly on the horizon, he's being listed as one of the top candidates on trade boards around the industry. He's ranked #2 on Daily Faceoff's latest edition.

Tanev is a fan favorite with his speed, hard hitting and gritty, determined play. All qualities that playoff-bound teams would be thrilled to add as a forward depth piece.

According to The Fourth Period, there are six teams that are linked to Tanev as a potential trade match. In alphabetical order:

  • Columbus Blue Jackets
  • New York Rangers
  • Ottawa Senators
  • Toronto Maple Leafs
  • Vegas Golden Knights
  • Washington Capitals
The Blue Jackets have been hit hard by injuries, and GM Don Waddell is looking to reward his team for their Cinderella season. He has the draft capital to make a Tanev deal work.

The Rangers' bottom-six depth took a big hit this week with the loss of left wing Adam Edstrom for several months with a lower-body injury. Tanev would be an ideal fit to help fill the void.

We discussed a recent report earlier this week linking the Senators to Tanev.

The 33-year-old winger is just a perfect Craig Berube kind of guy to plug into the Maple Leafs' bottom six, and they even have an added incentive, with big brother Chris Tanev manning the Toronto blueline.

The feisty forward would also fit into Vegas head coach Bruce Cassidy's defensive system, able to block shots and deliver more than his share of hits.

Tanev is an original Kraken, as the team selected him in the Expansion Draft in 2021. He notched a career-high 16 goals two seasons ago, and is on pace for about 14 this year, as he has nine through 53 games.
