Loui Eriksson Hangs Up Skates After 16 NHL Seasons

Loui Eriksson, an NHL veteran of 16 seasons, has announced his retirement from professional hockey today.  This marks the culmination of a career defined by professionalism, a strong two-way game, and consistent contributions to every team he represented. The 39-year-old, who played five seasons in Vancouver, shared the news in a letter posted on Instagram Monday by CAA Hockey.

"It’s time…

After a year and a half of reflection it’s time to officially retire. Hockey has given me more than I could have ever imagined. I’ve had the highest of highs and lowest of lows. But at the end of the day I’m so thankful for the memories that I’m bringing as I walk away from the game of hockey."

Eriksson’s NHL journey began in 2006 with the Dallas Stars, where he quickly became known for his reliable scoring touch and responsible defensive play.  As noted by the NHL, Eriksson played over 1000 NHL games, accumulating 253 goals and 613 points, finishing his career with a plus-16 rating. His time with the Stars in the late 2000s and early 2010s showcased his offensive abilities and established him as a valuable asset.

Later in his career, Eriksson signed a $36 million contract in 2016 with the Vancouver Canucks, bringing with him a wealth of experience and high expectations.  As Canucks Army notes, Eriksson was a respected teammate and professional during his time in Vancouver.

Throughout his NHL career, Eriksson was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to the game's defensive aspects. Eriksson’s 16-season NHL career is a testament to his dedication, longevity, and professionalism. He consistently earned the respect of his teammates and opponents, leaving a legacy of hard work and commitment to the sport.
