Maple Leafs Rumors: Toronto trying to move Max Domi before trade deadline

Sometimes for whatever reason, it just doesn't work out, and that's the case right now with Max Domi and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Domi signed a four-year contract extension last summer for a very reasonable $3.75 million AAV, but so far this year through 48 games, he's scored just three times and 20 points.

Domi owns a 13-team no-trade clause and if he is moved by GM Brad Treliving, the Leafs will be looking for a defensive-minded third-line centre in return. While Domi may have three goals, all three came in a one-week stretch throughout mid-December, he hasn't hit the scored since Dec.20, 2024.

The Leafs have tried to move him to left wing, right wing, up and down the lineup and nothing has helped. He played just over 13 minutes Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, and continues to be included in trade talks as the March 7 deadline approaches.

As for potential landing spots, the Leafs have been linked to several centers so far this season, including Brayden Schenn with the Blues, Luke Kunin with the Sharks, Jake Evans with the Canadiens, Ryan O'Reilly from the Predators, Brock Nelson from the Islanders, and Brandon Tanev and Yanni Gourde from the Kraken.

The Leafs don't have a 2025 first-round pick, and the 2026 draft is going to be very deep so they'll want to hold onto that pick. Moving Domi, and his minimal production this season, likely means Treliving needs to add a sweetener to the deal. Teams are asking about Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan, but so far Treliving would rather hold onto his top two prospects, as both could be ready to jump into the lineup full time next season.

For now, the Leafs are rumored to be trying to move Domi before the deadline, as they look to figure out their third line before the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
