Dermott, 28, was claimed off waivers by the Wild from the Edmonton Oilers back on Dec. 13. Now, just two months later, the Newmarket, Ontario native is once again available for the taking on waivers.
Dermott has appeared in nine games with the Wild since they claimed him off waivers, where he has zero points, six blocks, and an even plus/minus rating. In 10 games with the Oilers this season, he had zero points, six hits, and a minus-3 rating.
Seeing Dermott being placed on waivers by the Wild is understandable. He has become the odd man out on their blueline, as he has not appeared in a game with the Central Division club since Jan. 26 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
In 348 career NHL games over eight seasons split between the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, Oilers, and Wild, Dermott has 16 goals, 46 assists, 62 points, and a plus-12 rating. We will now need to wait and see if the Oilers or another NHL club claims him off of waivers from the Wild. Teams needing more defensive depth could consider it.
