NHL Rumors: 3 Trade Targets for the Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings are a team to watch very closely at the 2025 NHL trade deadline. They are one of the multiple teams fighting for a playoff spot and could end up adding to their roster because of it. Because of this, let’s go over three players who they could potentially target.

Dylan Cozens

The Red Wings made a push for Cozens earlier this season, so it would not surprising if they pursued him again as we continue to inch closer to the deadline. They could use a top-six center, and Cozens would give them just that. In addition, he would be far more than a rental, which undoubtedly adds to his appeal.

Rasmus Ristolainen

The Red Wings could also look to improve the right side of their defense before the deadline passes. It is a weak part of their roster right now, so a player like Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen could grab their attention. He is one of the top right-shot defenders on the trade market right now and would slot nicely on Detroit's second pairing.

Jared McCann

McCann is another skilled forward who could make a lot of sense for the Red Wings. If they acquired him, he would provide their forward group with a major boost. He can play both down the middle and on the wing, so he could fit virtually anywhere in their top six. In addition, he has an affordable $5 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season, so he would be more than a rental for Detroit if acquired.
