NHL Rumors: Oilers & Maple Leafs Linked To Trade

Nick Robertson's name continues to come up in trade discussions as the Toronto Maple Leafs look at roster changes ahead of the deadline.

The 23-year-old winger, once seen as a promising scorer, has struggled to establish a consistent role under head coaches Sheldon Keefe and Craig Berube, often playing limited minutes or being a healthy scratch.

With eight goals and 12 points in 47 games, Robertson's trade value has dropped significantly. James Mirtle of The Athletic believes the Leafs won’t get much in return, saying, "You're looking at a fairly late draft pick as compensation, get excited if it's a fourth."

Despite his offensive potential, his inconsistent usage in Toronto has made him expendable.

The Edmonton Oilers have been linked to Robertson as they look for secondary scoring at a low cost.

Jim Parsons of NHL Trade Talk pointed out that Robertson’s 1.02 goals per hour at five-on-five over the past three seasons would rank third on Edmonton’s roster behind only Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

His ability to finish plays and draw penalties makes him an intriguing depth option, especially at a cap hit of just $875,000. However, concerns about his smaller frame and limited impact on special teams remain.

Still, if the price stays low, Edmonton could explore a move, viewing him as a potential offensive boost for their bottom six.

Toronto appears ready to move on, with Sportsnet’s Justin Bourne writing, “If someone is going to head out, he makes the most sense.”

The Leafs are reportedly looking to package Robertson in a larger deal to upgrade their forward group, with teams like the Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars, and Seattle Kraken also mentioned as possible destinations.

Whether it's Edmonton or another team, a fresh start might be what Robertson needs to revive his career.
