NHL Rumors: Sharks & Jets Becoming Potential Trade Partners

The San Jose Sharks are preparing to be sellers at the 2025 NHL trade deadline. It is understandable, as they are at the bottom of the NHL standings and are still rebuilding. Due to this, defenseman Mario Ferraro is creating plenty of buzz in the rumor mill leading up to the March 7 deadline.

The Winnipeg Jets, on the other hand, are set to be buyers as they prepare for the playoffs. One area they will be aiming to strengthen is the left side of their defense, so they are a clear team to watch in the Ferraro sweepstakes.

If the Jets acquired Ferraro, he would be a strong fit on their second pairing with Neal Pionk. In addition, due to his steady defensive play, he would be an obvious choice on their penalty kill.

Another big reason why the Jets could look to make a big push for Ferraro is that he would be more than a rental. The left-shot blueliner is signed until the end of the 2025-26 season, where he has an easily affordable $3.25 million cap hit. He also does not have any trade protection, which makes a potential move to the Jets even easier.

Ferraro, 26, has appeared in 57 games this season with the Jets, where he has five goals, 11 points, 81 blocks, and 117 hits. This is after he had three goals and set new career highs with 18 assists and 21 points last season with San Jose.

We will now need to wait and see if the Jets and Sharks end up striking a deal centering around Ferraro from here.
