NHL Trade Deadline: Sharks' Nico Sturm on his way out of San Jose
The San Jose Sharks will be selling ahead of the March 7 trade deadline, and one candidate who appears to be on his way out of town is forward Nico Sturm.
Sturm, 29, is currently on the injured reserve and is expected back in the lineup in the very near future. Sturm has appeared in 41 games this year, scoring five goals and 11 points. He's averaged just 9:50 of ice-time per game, but is over an impressive 63% in the faceoff circle, and is used as a depth penalty killer for the Sharks.
Sturm spoke with Curtis Pashelka on Saturday and opened up how he feels a trade is coming.
#SJSharks Nico Sturm on the March 7 trade deadline: "I anticipate that something's going to happen in those two weeks that we're on the road realistically. But it's not really something that I'm worried about."

Sturm said he's keeping all options open as to where he'll sign next
Sturm is a pending unrestricted free agent, he makes $2 million against the cap and does not hold any trade protection. The Augsburg, Germany is a 6-foot-3 centre and has laid 52 hits this year. His best season came back in 2022-23, when Sturm scored 14 goals and 26 points in 74 games. Sturm won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022.

Nikolai Kovalenko continues to skate on his own. Jan Rutta is not.
Sharks GM Mike Grier continues to work the phones as San Jose is expected to make multiple trades including Sturm and fellow forward Luke Kunin. There's also been interest in Tyler Toffoli, so we'll see how things materialize for the Sharks.
