NHL Trade Rumors: 4 Goaltenders Who Could Be Moved Before 2025 NHL Trade Deadline
The NHL's trade deadline is just a couple of weeks away, and while the 4 Nations Face-Off may be captivating the hockey world at the moment, trade talks have not slowed down in the least. They've actually heated up in a major way.
Word is come Feb.18 once teams are back practicing together, there's expected to be several moves made. The trade market is loaded with talent this season, and that includes in the crease. We've already seen Alexandar Georgiev get moved, Mackenzie Blackwood, and Yaroslav Askarov as well. Here's four other goaltenders who could be on the move before the 2025 trade deadline:
John Gibson, Anaheim Ducks
Speculation has been there for years, and this season could finally be it. The Ducks could trade Gibson. There's been plenty of talk about how he prefers starting as a 1-A option, and wouldn't mind suiting up in Carolina or Edmonton, but it won't be that easy. Gibson has two years left on his deal at $6.4 million AAV, and owns a 10-team no-trade list. Teams to keep an eye on besides the Hurricanes and Oilers include the Detroit Red Wings, and Utah HC.
Calvin Pickard, Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers have been linked to Gibson, and there's some talk about them looking to upgrade in net, and give Stuart Skinner a more well-rounded 1-B option, not only for this season, but moving forward in Edmonton. Pickard's 14-5-0 on the year, with a .901 save percentage. He's signed for $1 million AAV, this season and next, and considering Skinner makes just $2.6 million against the cap, makes you wonder why Edmonton would be looking to mess with a good thing.
Dan Vladar, Calgary Flames
One of the few pending free-agent goalies on the market, Vladar is surely to be moved by the Flames. GM Craig Conroy has Dustin Wolf as his goalie of the now, and for the future, and with Devin Cooley once again ripping up the AHL, the Flames can move Vladar and still be able to get into the playoffs. Look for a mid-round draft pick to be heading back to Calgary in this move.
Frederik Andersen, Carolina Hurricanes
The 'Canes aren't shy about bold moves, that's for sure. Andersen hasn't been consistently healthy for several years now and with him being 35, and a free-agent this summer, the team could look to find a solution moving forward, and adding someone like Gibson shouldn't be out of the question. Andersen owns a 15-team no-trade clause, and will have some say in the matter. When he's available to play, Andersen's one of the best in the league. The only thing is, he's not always been available, and after the Mikko Rantanen trade, perhaps GM Eric Tulsky finds a less risky option in net.
