Predators Rumors: 3 Players Nashville Could Trade Prior to Deadline

The Nashville Predators have not met expectations this season, and frankly, are one of the biggest disappointments in the entire NHL. After bringing in big-name free agents, the combination of talent hasn't worked out for GM Barry Trotz, and now, Trotz needs to re-tool on the fly ahead of the trade deadline March 7.

Here's three Predators who could be moved ahead of the deadline, according to Adam Proteau of The Hockey News:

Ryan O'Reilly

O'Reilly left the Maple Leafs two summers ago, after being offered a similar extension to sign south in Smashville. The 33-year-old has scored 14 goals and 30 points in 49 games this season, and reports have surfaced stating if Trotz does move him, he'll work with O'Reilly on where he wants to get traded to. The veteran centre doesn't have trade protection on his contract, but the level of respect is there from the GM. O'Reilly is owed $4.5 million AAV against the cap for two more seasons. Proteau links the Maple Leafs and Avalanche as possible reunion options.

Gustav Nyquist

The 35-year-old is having a down year, with nine goals and 20 points in 51 games. He's a pending unrestricted free agent and it makes complete sense for Trotz to cash in on his rental. Last season Nyquist scored 23 goals and 75 points, so a change of scenery could spark production in a major way.
Nyquist is under contract for $3.18 million and if Trotz retains some of the salary, he could land as high as a second-round pick.

Colton Sissons

The last on Proteau's list was Sissons, a veteran depth forward, who carries a $2.85 million AAV cap hit through 2025-26. He's recorded 13 points on the year, and is a good option as a bottom-six centre for a contending team. Sissons has won 55.6% of his faceoffs and is a great penalty killer. He's someone who could use a fresh start, to say the very least
