Predators Rumors: Nashville Could Start Clearing Roster Spots
Defenseman Adam Wilsby recently earned a two-year, $1.55 million extension after impressing in 23 NHL games this season. While currently sidelined with an upper-body injury, Wilsby is expected to be part of the team’s future plans, joining Roman Josi and Brady Skjei as the only defensemen signed through 2026-27.
With injuries to Jeremy Lauzon and Mark Jankowski temporarily opening up roster spots, the Predators have flexibility for now, but once those players return, Trotz will need to clear space.
Spencer Stastney could see more NHL time, and later in the season, junior prospects Tanner Molendyk and Andrew Gibson may get an opportunity if their CHL seasons end before the NHL schedule wraps up.

With Nashville sitting 18 points out of a playoff spot, trading veterans is becoming more likely. Gustav Nyquist and Ryan O’Reilly are among the players who could be moved, with contenders expected to show interest.
Nyquist, 35, is in the final year of his contract and has seen a dip in production from last season, but his playmaking ability makes him a viable depth addition for a playoff team. “Of course, it’s something that’s on my mind,” Nyquist admitted. “But at the same time… we have a fantastic life in Nashville and really enjoy it here.”
O’Reilly, under contract for two more seasons with a $4.5 million cap hit, continues to produce and brings championship experience, making him a valuable asset for teams in need of center depth.
Colton Sissons, a reliable faceoff specialist with a 55.6% win rate, could also draw interest, likely fetching a mid-level draft pick or a prospect.

Wilsby’s emergence and the organization’s confidence in younger defensemen could lead to a veteran blueliner being moved, allowing players like Stastney to step into a larger role.
“If younger players start joining the team, some moves will have to be made,” said a source close to the organization.
With the Predators preparing for the future, roster turnover appears inevitable.
