Report: Boston Bruins could trade captain Brad Marchand
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the hockey insider feels there's certainly potential if the Boston Bruins don't turn things around over the next few weeks, that there's a possibility that Brad Marchand's name could be involved in trade talks.
There's been multiple reports of late, stating 'anything is on the table' for the Bruins, as GM Don Sweeney looks to re-tool his roster, and find a way to balance out production. Moving Marchand would be a massive move for the franchise, one that would certainly have ripple effects on someone like David Pastrnak.
Marchand is a pending unrestricted free agent, earning $6.1 million in the final year of his contract. He holds only an eight-team no-trade list, so Sweeney has a ton of flexibility to get a deal done, however, considering what Marchand means to the franchise, it's likely the Bruins' GM gets him heavily involved in trade talks.
If and a big IF Marchand does get moved, the Colorado Avalanche would be the heavy favorites, with a team like the Los Angeles Kings being a wild card in the West. There's essentially zero chance that Sweeney would move Marchand to a contender in the eastern conference.
As for Pastrnak, the star winger is signed through the 2030-31 season, at $11.2 million AAV. Pastrnak holds a full no-movement clause and Sweeney will have to be very careful with how the roster is handled over the next six months to ensure everyone is kept happy in Boston.
