Report: Canucks Shut Down Trade Talk Surrounding Elias Pettersson.

In a move that will reassure Vancouver Canucks fans, the team has firmly shut down any speculation about trading star center Elias Pettersson. Despite swirling rumors and trade talks earlier this season, the Canucks have made it clear that Pettersson is a cornerstone of their future and will not be moved.

According to Canucks Army, the organization is no longer engaging in trade discussions involving the 25-year-old Swedish forward. This decision makes plenty of sense, as Pettersson is in the first year of a massive $92.8 million contract that runs into the 2031-2032 season. With an annual salary of $11.6 million, moving him would be no easy feat, both financially and strategically.

Daily Hive reported that the Canucks’ management has emphatically closed the door on any Pettersson trade talks, signaling their commitment to building around him. This stance aligns with the team’s recent moves, including trading J.T. Miller to free up cap space and solidify their roster. For now, the Canucks are focused on creating a competitive team, and Pettersson is central to that vision.

However, this season has been a challenging one for Pettersson. After recording 102 points in 2022-23 and 89 points last season, he has just 34 points in 49 games in 2024-25, marking the worst statistical stretch of his NHL career. While he has scored 30 or more goals in each of the last three seasons, he has only managed 11 goals so far this year, with less than half the campaign remaining.

Despite this downturn, the Canucks remain confident in Pettersson’s ability to bounce back. As Yardbarker noted, his fate in Vancouver has been “sealed,” with the team viewing him as untouchable. His chemistry with teammates like Quinn Hughes and Brock Boeser has been a bright spot, and the organization is eager to see that core continue to grow.

The 4 Nations break won't prohibit teams from making trades, but Elite Prospects' Cam Robinson indicates that the Canucks have officially pulled Elias Pettersson off of the trade market.

For Canucks fans, this news is a welcome relief. Pettersson’s combination of skill, work ethic, and leadership makes him a fan favorite and a key piece of the team’s future. As the Canucks look to rebound and contend in the coming seasons, keeping Pettersson in the fold is a clear statement of intent.
