Report: New Jersey Devils '100%' Trading for Center
The New Jersey Devils are a team to watch ahead of the NHL's trade deadline, as GM Tom Fitzgerald is expected to be aggressive on the trade market heading into next Friday.
When it comes to targets, the Devils are shored up in net, they have a strong blueline, but the lack some depth down the middle of the ice. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, expect to see the Devils make a move, and look for it to be adding a center before the deadline.
The one team everyone believes will absolutely 100-per-cent trade for a centre? New Jersey - via 32 Thoughts.
The Devils have just $1.6 million in cap space so Fitzgerald will need to be creative if he wants to add an impact center. New Jersey has three second-round picks at the 2025 NHL Draft, but do not own their first-rounder, and there's several prospects who could be in play such as Cam Squires, Chase Stillman, and Josh Filmon.
The Devils sit with a 32-22-6 record heading into the weekend's action, third in the Metropolitan Division. They are eight points up on the New York Rangers, and have serious hopes of going deep in the playoffs in Sheldon Keefe's first season behind the bench.
As far as potential depth centers are concerned, the likes of Yanni Gourde, Brock Nelson, Scott Laughton and Luke Kunin have all been names mentioned in trade talks the past few weeks.
