Report: Trade Market For Morgan Geekie Is "Growing"
I’d say the market is continually growing for him. I’m hearing both playoff contenders and teams not likely to make the playoffs are interested. He’s still young enough to even intrigue teams in a rebuild or teams who want to retool and get younger doing so.
Geekie, the 26-year-old center/forward, has already tied his career-high in goals (17) set last year, and with 24 points in his last 32 games is on pace for a 45-point campaign or better, which would also be a personal best, as is his 16 minutes on ice per game.
The 6'3", 200-pounder handed out 137 hits last season, and has 81 thus far in 52 games this time around.
It would be surprising to see the Bruins move on from him, as they are a team that needs to get younger and "retool" themselves, amidst a disappointing season for the franchise. The unnamed exec says they could go either way with Geekie.
“I still wouldn’t be surprised if they extend him, but depending on what they could get now, or in the offseason before July 1, it could make more sense to move him."
The Bruins currently sit 6th in the Atlantic Division, though just two points back of 4th, and one point out of a Wild Card berth in the Eastern Conference. They're thought to be looking at buying and selling at next month's trade deadline.
Geekie was a third-round pick by the Carolina Hurricanes (67th overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
