Reports Indicate That A Golden Knights – Sabres Trade Is Brewing

Day after day, we're hearing that the Vegas Golden Knights are keeping their eye on the Buffalo Sabres. Literally. Knights scouts have been reportedly seen at Sabres games night after night, indicating that Vegas is clearly targeting Buffalo as a trade partner.

Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff wrote in his The Sheet blog this week:

Make what you want out of this, but there sure have been a lot of Vegas Golden Knights scouts at the last five Buffalo Sabres games. Two more again Saturday for Buffalo’s game against the New York Rangers.

This followed yet another sighting by Sabres insider Michael Augello.

Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon is never one to sit on his hands when there are some impact players available, and despite his claims that this could be a quiet deadline for them, most observers feel that's a smokescreen to allow him to pounce out of the blue.

Two players on the Sabres the Golden Knights could particularly be targeting:

Alex Tuch

With his size (6'4"), scoring (19 goals) and two-way play (+15 rating), he'd be a tremendous add to the Vegas top-six, and of course would reunite him with the team with which he became a regular in the NHL. Tuch spent four seasons in Vegas, from 2017 through 2021. He has one year left on his deal with a cap hit of $4.75 million.

Dylan Cozens

Another sizeable target, the 6'3" Cozens has been on nearly every team's radar this season, as circling GMs figure he could be a buy-low candidate. Cozens wouldn't be a top-six center in Vegas, not with Jack Eichel and Tomas Hertl already in tow, but what a tremendous "depth" add, where he could bring his sizeable frame and 123 hits to the mix.
