Ryan Hartman SLAMMED By NHL With Longest Suspension in 7 Years

With four previous suspensions and an in-person hearing in the offing, you just knew that the NHL was going to come down hard on the Minnesota Wild's Ryan Hartman for this one. And that, they did.

Hartman's punishment for ramming Ottawa Senators' Tim Stützle's head down into the ice over the weekend is a whopping 10-game suspension. It's the longest such ban for on-ice conduct since 2018.

Hartman will lose $487,804.88 in salary due to the severe suspension. Stutzle was left with blood running down his face from a nasty gash on his head.

In handing down the ruling, the NHL's Department of Player Safety said, "It is important to note that this is not a hockey play. Hartman contends that he is attempting to use his hand to regain his balance using Stützle for support and that their fall to the ice is accidental. We disagree."

They go on to add that the severity is also due to the fact that the DoPS has been forced to discipline Hartman once for about every 60 games he's played over his career. And not only was he a repeat offender this time, but for the last three times as well.

Hartman can appeal the suspension, first with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, and then if the ban still remains at six games or more, he can further appeal to a neutral arbitrator.

Hartman has 17 points and 60 penalty minutes in 48 games this season for the Wild.
