Report: Shocking Reason Why Logan Thompson Was Left Off Team Canada's 4 Nations Roster

Logan Thompson’s omission from Team Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off roster was a very puzzling decision, with reports now indicating that personal grudges played a major role in the decision.

Despite being a Vezina Trophy candidate with a 24-2-4 record and a league-best .923 save percentage among Canadian goaltenders, the Washington Capitals star was passed over for Adin Hill, Jordan Binnington, and Samuel Montembeault—none of whom have matched his performance this season.

Former NHL goaltender Steve Valiquette revealed on Real Kyper & Bourne that assistant coaches Bruce Cassidy and Pete DeBoer, who worked with Thompson in Vegas, refused to have him on the team.

“I don't think Cassidy and DeBoer were going to have it,” Valiquette said. “They didn’t have a great experience with him in Vegas.”

Reports suggest that Thompson’s relationship with the Golden Knights coaching staff soured due to conflicts over his playing time.

After the 2023-24 season, he requested a trade in search of a bigger role, eventually landing in Washington, where he has thrived and recently signed a six-year contract extension. While Thompson has insisted he holds no hard feelings toward Vegas, Valiquette hinted at deeper issues behind the scenes.

“There were times they wanted him to play and he wasn’t available,” he said. “I know a little bit about what happened there, and I can’t get into it.”

With Thompson proving himself as one of the NHL’s elite netminders, his exclusion is difficult to justify. If goaltending becomes a weakness in the tournament, scrutiny will fall on Cassidy, DeBoer, and Hockey Canada for allowing personal grievances to override merit.

“This is a shocking level of immaturity and spite,” one report stated, as many believe Thompson should have at least been considered, if not named the starter.
