TRADE: Ducks Acquire Ville Husso From Red Wings

The Anaheim Ducks have added to their goalie depth, as they have acquired Ville Husso from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for future considerations.

The Ducks have also announced that Husso will report to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Diego Gulls.

Husso, 30, appeared in nine games this season with the Red Wings, where he had a 1-5-2 record, a .866 save percentage, and a 3.69 goals-against average. Due to his struggles, he dropped to the No. 3 spot on the Red Wings' goalie depth chart and spent more of this season down in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Husso played in 13 games with the Griffins before this trade, where he had an 8-4-0 record, a .912 save percentage, and a 2.70 goals-against average. Overall, he has been solid at the AHL level this season, and he will look to maintain this kind of play with the Gulls from here.

With this move, the Red Wings have freed up roughly $3.5 million of cap space. This is significant news for the Red Wings, as it opens the door for them to make more potential moves at the NHL trade deadline.

It will be fascinating to see how Husso performs with the Ducks organization from here.
