Madden, 25, spent each of the last five seasons with the Kings' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Ontario Reign, before this trade. In 47 games this season with the Reign, he had eight goals, 25 points, and a minus-3 rating.
While Madden was initially selected by the Vancouver Canucks with the 68th overall pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. However, he never signed a contract with the Canucks, as he was dealt to the Kings back during the 2019-20 season in the Tyler Toffoli trade.
Cecconi, on the other hand, played in 51 games with the Iowa Wild this season, where he had two goals, 14 points, 41 penalty minutes, and a plus-5 rating. The 6-foot-3 defenseman has yet to make his NHL debut, just like Madden.
Overall, this is a small trade between these two Western Conference clubs. The Wild have gained some forward depth by adding Madden, while the Kings have picked up a 6-foot-3 blueliner for their AHL squad. It will be interesting to see how this move pays off for each team from here.
