Denisenko, 24, played in just one NHL game for the Golden Knights this season before this trade, where he had five hits in 8:27 of ice time. Down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Henderson Silver Knights this campaign, he had 10 goals and 24 points in 42 games. This was after he had 20 goals and 56 points in 65 games with Henderson this past season.
Denisenko was selected by the Florida Panthers with the 15th overall pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The 5-foot-11 forward was once considered a top prospect, but he has had trouble cementing himself as a full-time NHL player at this stage of his career. Perhaps this change of scenery with the Predators could help change things on that front.
Denisenko has appeared in 33 career NHL games over five seasons split between the Panthers and Golden Knights. During them, he has posted zero goals, seven assists, 55 hits, and a minus-7 rating.
It will be very fascinating to see if Denisenko can take that next step with the Predators from here. Overall, there is zero risk in the Predators taking a chance on the former top prospect.
