Where Can Washington Capitals Add At Trade Deadline?
The Washington Capitals are second in the NHL and I don't think the season is surprising anyone anymore. There are so many players contributing to the success in all areas of the lineup, but the team is still looking to add. Where will that be?
All of the rumors surrounding the Capitals are coming at forward, particularly with the depth. There aren't issues with the bottom-6, but in one of the last seasons for Alex Ovechkin when the team is a powerhouse, it's only logical to improve the chances at winning even further in a weaker Eastern Conference.
Players like Brock Nelson, Jake Evans, Casey Mittelstadt, and Brandon Tanev have all been linked to Washington. While the first three would play every game, I think if the Capitals acquired Tanev, he'd be alternating in with a player like Brandon Duhaime, Taylor Raddysh, or Ethen Frank.
A healthy scratch for the majority of the games this season in Jakob Vrana doesn't seem to be too heavily involved in the future plans. Either he could be a player headed back to a team the Capitals make a trade with or he finds himself bumped down to the AHL.
I wouldn't say perfect, but the Capitals' defense and goaltending has been very good and there is no place where I can find that actually needs a mid-season upgrade. The team has players who excel in every situation and it has worked out very well for them on defense.
After sneaking into the playoffs and getting dominated last season, the Capitals have more than deserved the place they sit in the standings this time around. They will have an easier matchup than the Presidents' Trophy winners as they may be the winner themselves this season. Keep an eye on the Capitals to make one key add for their bottom-6 before the trade deadline.
