Winnipeg Jets & Vancouver Canucks Becoming Potential Trade Partners
The Winnipeg Jets are in an excellent spot right now. At the time of this writing, they have a 39-14-3 record and the most points in the NHL standings. Due to this, they are gearing up to be buyers at the trade deadline as they prepare for the playoffs.
The Vancouver Canucks are expected to make more changes to their group by the deadline, and one player who they are looking to move is Carson Soucy. With the Jets needing help on defense, they would make a ton of sense as a suitor for him.
When looking at the Jets' lineup, there is no question that they could use a blueliner like Soucy. He could be a great fit on their second pairing with Neal Pionk due to his defense-first style of play. However, at a minimum, he would at least provide them with an upgrade on their third pairing. This is especially so when noting that he can play both the left and right sides.
Soucy, 30, has appeared in 52 games this season with the Canucks, where he has two goals, eight points, 82 hits, and 85 blocks. While his offensive numbers do not necessarily stand out, he is a traditional stay-at-home defenseman who plays a heavy game. This could intrigue the Jets, especially for the playoffs.
Soucy has a full no-trade clause, so he would need to approve a move to Winnipeg. However, with the way things are going with him in Vancouver right now, it is likely that he wants a change of scenery at this point.
