3 Calgary Flames Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout
The Calgary Flames have shocked a lot of people this season with how they've played. They are right in the playoff race and have a solid chance of making it. That being said, Craig Conroy, the general manager said that nothing more had to be done at the trade deadline and decisions will be made in the offseason. There are some free agents and roster spots that have to be worked out.
Anthony Mantha
Anthony Mantha had a good start to the season with the Flames, scoring four goals and seven points in 13 games, but he has been injured and long-term replacements have been found for the roles in the lineup. As a UFA this summer, it is likely the Flames just part with the veteran as injuries may also continue to be a concern. It won't be a very long stop in Calgary, but as indicated, more moves may be made. That likely means bringing in help.
Dan Vladar
There is a very clear separation between Dustin Wolf and Dan Vladar this season. There was a chance that Vladar, who is a UFA this offseason, was going to be traded at the deadline, but the market for goalies wasn't great. As Wolf has a .915 SV% this season, Vladar has a .893 SV% and has started 13 fewer games. With the team on the rise, they will be looking for a backup to Wolf that is either a veteran, has better numbers, or ideally both.
Joel Hanley
Joel Hanley will be a casualty of the organization having a number of talented young defenders, both on the roster and in the system that will be taking up spots. Hanley is hardly a full time NHLer as is and has been mainly a placeholder, playing 35 games and averaging 17:30 per game on the season. The 33 year old has served his use for the Flames, but someone like Ilya Solovyov will push him out quickly.
