3 Carolina Hurricanes Contract Extension Candidates
The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.
In this latest edition of the series, the Carolina Hurricanes will be the team focused on.
Taylor Hall
The Hurricanes acquired Hall from the Chicago Blackhawks back in January, and they are open to keeping the veteran forward around. The 33-year-old winger will likely get a pay cut from his current $6 million cap hit, but he is still a solid middle-six forward at this point of his career. He is also starting to heat up in Carolina, so a new deal certainly could be on the way.
Dmitry Orlov
Orlov is another pending unrestricted free agent who the Hurricanes are likely to try to keep around. The 33-year-old defenseman is having a solid year with the Hurricanes, posting four goals, 24 points, and a plus-15 rating in 62 games thus far. With numbers like these, he has been a key part of the Hurricanes' blueline this season, so it would not be surprising if they worked hard to extend him.
Frederik Andersen
Andersen has dealt with injury trouble this season but has also been very good when healthy. In 14 games this season, he has a 9-5-0 record, a .912 save percentage, and a 2.15 goals-against average. With the goalie free agent market not being the strongest this upcoming offseason, the Hurricanes could look to keep Andersen around.
