3 Carolina Hurricanes Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout

The Carolina Hurricanes' roster is far from set for next season with a few big contracts coming off the books and room to improve to stay at the top of the standings. There could also be some more trades as they haven't been afraid to make a big swing one way or another the past number of years. Here's a look at three players who won't be back next season.

Brent Burns

Brent Burns might still want to play in the NHL, but he has run his course on the Carolina Hurricanes at age 40. His production has really dropped and Shayne Gostisbehere is signed to be the number one power play man. Sooner than later, prospects like Scott Morrow are going to demand full time roles in the NHL with their play. I think that comes next season and Burns, who is a UFA, won't be re-signed.

Frederik Andersen

The Hurricanes have gotten good performances from Frederik Andersen when he has been healthy, but that has hardly been the case. Injuries always come at a bad time too. Pyotr Kochetkov, although signed for very cheap for another two years, can be the starter in Carolina. Andersen is 35 years old and there will be other goalies available to sign or trade for in the offseason that can stay healthier and give the team a better chance throughout the season and during the playoffs. The Hurricanes need more consistency at their goaltending position and that will come by moving off the pending UFA.

Taylor Hall

Taylor Hall was acquired alongside Mikko Rantanen, and although Hall wasn't flipped, he isn't that effective anymore and will very likely sign somewhere else. The Hurricanes have already got a good look at what he can provide, and it's one goal and three points in 14 games while logging nearly 15 minutes per night on a deep team. As noted above with Burns, there are notable prospects that are looking to come in and fill a role. The Hurricanes will be much more inclined to give spots to them over an aging and declining Hall.
