3 Chicago Blackhawks Contract Extension Candidates
The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.
In this latest edition of the series, the Chicago Blackhawks will be the team of focus.
Ryan Donato
Donato was the subject of trade rumors leading up to the deadline, but the Blackhawks chose to hold onto the pending unrestricted free agent. With this, their hope is to sign him to an extension, and it is easy to understand why. Donato is in the middle of a spectacular season, setting new career highs with 23 goals, 25 assists, and 48 points in 63 games. However, to keep him around, they will need to give him a raise.
Pat Maroon
Maroon is another player to keep an eye on when it comes to extension talks. The veteran forward loves playing in Chicago and has been an excellent leader for the rebuilding Blackhawks. He also notably did not get traded to a contender at the deadline, so don't be surprised if they keep him around beyond this season.
Alec Martinez
The Blackhawks could also look to extend Martinez. The veteran defenseman has been a good mentor for the rebuilding Blackhawks' blueline, and he could stick around because of it. In 38 games this season, the three-time Stanley Cup champion has five goals and 12 points.
