3 Dallas Stars Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout
The Dallas Stars have really loaded up this season and they've had lots of cap space to do so with big injuries to Tyler Seguin and Miro Heiskanen. They have brought in some players on expiring contracts, but have some big decisions to make in the offseason regarding some impactful players.
Mikael Granlund
Mikael Granlund was likely never a player the Stars thought they would be able to keep past this season with how well he's played this season and last. His cap hit will be too high and will seek a bigger role than the one he would get in Dallas for his next contract. While he may be playing in the top-6 right now with a couple of big injuries to the team up front, the Stars have to focus on bringing Jamie Benn and Matt Duchene back first.
Evgenii Dadonov
Evgenii Dadonov is in a similar position. He is a UFA after the season and hasn't had a very big role on the team for a while. There is a good chance he also thinks he can find a bigger role, and with 16 goals and 35 points on the season, it's likely. With a season like the one he's having, Dadonov is going to be looking for a raise as well.
Cody Ceci
The Stars have a couple of defensemen injured and Cody Ceci is just seen as a rest of the season replacement option. The team has six defensemen signed through next season and also have Nils Lundkvist as a RFA they have to take care of to take the roster to seven. There is no room for Ceci and given he's played in the top-4 for a number of years, that is where he'll be looking for. There's no logical reasoning to sign Ceci again, for the Stars or for him.
