3 Montreal Canadiens Who Won't Be Back Next Season: Post Trade Deadline Fallout

The Montreal Canadiens decided to keep their team together through the trade deadline because the team has earned it and so that the chemistry wasn't thrown off for the stretch run. They have a chance to make the playoffs as Montreal is right in the thick of the race in the East, but with such a bright future, more impactful players that could be signed, and the youth coming, there will be changes coming.

David Savard

David Savard was going to be a trade piece last season or this one, but in his last year under contract, hasn't been moved. He's 34 years old and now on the third pairing. If the team was going to move him for a good return, it would've been last season. Not only is Logan Mailloux ready to come into the NHL and take a spot on the roster, David Reinbacher is close behind. The Canadiens still have Michael Matheson and Alexandre Carrier on the roster for the veteran presence needed, so parting with Savard after this playoff push is the most likely outcome unless the team wants to stunt the development of their young d-men.

Joel Armia

Joel Armia was another one of the pending UFAs that were kept around despite interest from teams. He is a depth piece and has been pretty solid for the Canadiens this season. He has 11 goals and 25 points in 64 games, but will get some offers in the offseason. The Canadiens will be looking to add some bigger pieces as they try to get over the hump and you don't know when Armia could fall off in production.

Christian Dvorak

Christian Dvorak has not been the player the Canadiens had hoped for when they acquired him and his contract is almost finished. He has been a bottom-6 center for most of his time in Montreal and is overpaid. He is good in the draws, but has six goals and 20 points this season. It is time for Montreal and Dvorak to finally split. The team needs an upgrade at the third line center role and Jake Evans has more than earned it.
