3 New York Islanders Contract Extension Candidates
The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.
In this latest edition of the series, we will be taking a look at the New York Islanders.
Noah Dobson
Dobson is a pending restricted free agent who is a prime extension candidate. The 25-year-old is a key part of the Islanders' blueline and will be looking for a raise from his current $4 million cap hit. In 55 games this season, he has seven goals and 28 points. This is after he had 10 goals and 70 points in 79 games last season.
Kyle Palmieri
The Islanders opted to hold onto Palmieri at the deadline, and the expectation is that an extension will be finalized shortly. The veteran winger has been an important part of the Islanders' forward group for a while, so it makes sense that an extension is expected to be on the way soon.
Alexander Romanov
Romanov is another important defenseman who the Islanders are likely to keep around. The left-shot defenseman spends time on the Islanders' top pairing and penalty kill,so the pending restricted free agent should be one of their top priorities. In 52 games this season, he has four goals, 18 points, and a plus-9 rating.
