3 Ottawa Senators Contract Extension Candidates

The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, the Ottawa Senators will be the team discussed.

Claude Giroux

Giroux is a pending unrestricted free agent the Senators could look to sign to a contract extension. The 37-year-old forward is a very important part of their leadership group and is still quite impactful at this stage of his career. In 64 games this season with the Senators, he has 12 goals and 41 points. Thus, it would not be too surprising if they tried to extend him.

Fabian Zetterlund

The Senators made a significant move when they acquired Zetterlund from the San Jose Sharks at the trade deadline. Now, their next goal will be to sign the pending restricted free agent to a contract extension. The 25-year-old winger is due for a raise from his current $1.45 million cap hit, as he has 17 goals and 36 points in 66 games this season.

Adam Gaudette

Gaudette has been a nice surprise for the Senators this season, so they could look to keep him around beyond this season. In 63 games, he has scored a career-high 16 goals and has 23 points to go along with a plus-12 rating. With numbers like these, he has given the Senators solid secondary scoring and could be worth extending at a reasonable price because of it.
