3 Pittsburgh Penguins Contract Extension Candidates

The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be taking a look at the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Matt Grzelcyk

The Penguins held onto the pending unrestricted free agent Grzelcyk at the deadline, even with the club being out of the playoff race. With this, it is hard not to wonder if the Penguins could look to sign the Massachusetts native to an extension. He has been a good fit with the Pens, scoring one goal and setting new career highs with 30 assists and 31 points in 70 games this season.

Conor Timmins

The Penguins acquired Timmins from the Toronto Maple Leafs at the deadline, and he's been excellent for them early on. In five games with the Penguins thus far, he has one goal, four points, and a plus-7 rating. If he keeps this up, the Penguins could look to extend the 26-year-old blueliner.

Philip Tomasino

Tomasino is another player who the club will likely look to keep around beyond this season. Since being acquired from the Nashville Predators earlier this season, Tomasino has been solid in Pittsburgh, posting 10 goals and 19 points in 41 games. With this, don't be surprised if the Penguins work hard to extend the pending restricted free agent.
